England v Australia: The Live Blog

Live blog

Housby scores a couple of blinders but it is truly too little too late. All over at 50-46.

Why did Pitman and Corbin go off? Why did the Aussie defence work so well? All questions that I will probably answer by watching the proper commentary.

How would we review this match? Moments of brilliance but the Aussies never let England get ahead. Still, an 8 goal win over New Zealand and then a narrow 4 goal loss to Australia means it’s all to play for at the Commonwealth Games this April…

21:07

We are stressed. The teams look stressed. The crowd looks stressed. Gabi Simpson gets another all-important turnover with 2 minutes to go.

SCORE ENG 44 48 AUS

21:04

Bassett off for Thwaites in the Aussie circle, presumably because Geva knows her too well.

Kadeen has gone off and been replaced by Ella Cardwell! Does anyone know why? Truly it is at times like these that you need to be reading a more official live blog.

SCORE ENG 42 45 AUS

20:59

We are back, beers in hand. Can England take it over the line?

Pitman is still off (we miss her) and Corbin and Housby have switched it up. EBC still having a stormer and gets a hugely important turnover.

ENG 39 41 AUS

20:49

HUGE intercept from one woman wonder Kadeen Corbin and a couple of awesome goals mean England pull it back to 34-37 at the final quarter!!

20:45

Courtney Bruce (Aussie GK) playing very bloody well. England afraid to put the ball up. Haythornthwaite throws one wide and Corbin ends up on the hoardings.

We are concerned about Chelsea Pitman. Is anyone listening to the commentary? Someone please update us.

SCORE ENG 28 37 AUS

20:39

EBC is having a stormer out here. England defence looking slick.

Oh wait. Beth Cobden wings it off court. Extremely relatable

SCORE ENG 26 32 AUS

SHE HAS PROVIDED EVIDENCE

20:25

Half time discussions in the commentary box. It’s been a physical match so far, what Emily is describing as ‘a lot of argy bargy’.

Our Aussie friend comes over claiming to have played with Chelsea Pitman at school. As if

20:21

EXTREME catch from Kadeen Corbin. Please someone have that on video.

We are discussing how tough it must be for teammates Geva and Caitlin Bassett to be playing against each other in the circle. We get awkward playing against each other at training.

SCORE ENG 21 28 AUS

20:15

We are discussing the merits of high fiving. Both teams high five a lot. Do Australia high five more? Is that why they are ahead? We need to get someone on this.

Update: Chelsea Pitman has gone off!!!!!!!! So has Ama!!! What is going on

SCORE ENG 16 24 AUS

20:10

Some incredible athletics from Guthrie and Mentor are then rewarded with a massive long jump from Corbin at the other end.

Update: Guthrie turning over balls FOR FUN

SCORE ENG 12 19 AUS

20:07

BETH COBDEN IS ON

Beth Cobden is the hero us WDs didn’t know we needed.

20:02

The whistle goes for quarter time, which is good because we have descended into talking about how good Jo Weston is on Instagram.

ENG-AUS 11-16

20:00

Play of the day comes from Kadeen Corbin, keeping a pass in and winging it into the circle from one leg. Some serious core strength on display from both sides here.

SCORE ENG 10 15 AUS

Loads of flair so far from England’s attack against a suffocating Aussie defence. Ravaillon does a classic Saturday morning chasing-the-ball-off-court-with-arms-outstretched after England drop a pass.

Score: ENG 7 11 AUS

19:45

And we’re off! HUGE turnout at the Copper Box tonight after Saturday’s incred game. Australia are first on the board after turning over England’s C but England are straight back with a turnover in response.

Score: ENG 1 3 AUS

Hello and welcome to tonight’s coverage of the England v Australia match, coming to you live from the Copper Box. In the commentary booth tonight: Selma (GK extraordinaire), Emily (GS, recently got promoted out of my team, still bitter) and Kerry (currently pursuing dream of becoming a C). Looking forward to another HUGE match tonight between the world nos. 1 and 3.
